Line Bending

Acrylic & plastic line bending can be accomplished using several techniques. Line bending is an efficient process for creating one or tighter radius bends in most formable sheet plastics. We can bend acrylic lengths up to 1600m wide by infinite length.

Arcola Product's factory includes single to six line bending facilities, which have the ability to bend a range of materials including Perpsex, Polycarbonate and Foam PVC. Getting the rounded look is what can make acrylic look so great, as there is no gluing or joining involved you are able to achieve a flawless curved finish that acrylic is all about. In additional to line bending sheets can also be placed in and commercial factory oven, allowing the material to soften and to be shaped afterwards, this works especially well with thicker materials that can’t be vacuum formed.

The main benefits of line bending are:

  • Straight bends with small radius’s are created very efficiently and look stunning
  • No additional tooling is involved
  • Most applications for line bending tend to focus on single or double parallel bends to create objects such as rectangular covers and equipment housings. However, some fairly complex forms can be manufactured using this technique, we are able to form up to 6 bends at once with our line bender.

Line bending is where utilising a single strip element; heat is applied locally to produce a ‘hot hinge’ simply softening the material allowing the sheet to be formed to the required angle or shape. Once the material begins to cool it retains its rigidness. Line bending is usually a prelude to fabrication.
